“It’s just promises left right and centre” Ivan told us as he surveyed the Monday morning papers – which carry several reports on Government plans for a giveaways in the Budget.

The Irish Examiner leads with: “Labour votes to scrap USC for low earners”, while the Irish Independent brings the Tánaiste Joan Burton writing on plans for an increase to social welfare Christmas bonuses, with the front page headline: “€115 pensioner bonus as grey vote targeted”.

The Irish Times meanwhile reports on the ongoing refugee crisis, with the ongoing developments as Germany is now looking to establish border controls. “Germany reintroduces border controls”, the front page reads.

Elsewhere in the papers there’s plenty of coverage of the Cork camogie team, who today bring the O’Duffy Cup back to Leeside for the 25th time after yesterday’s win at Croke Park.

In the tabloids, the Daily Mail has the powerful picture of a man swimming with his infant to the Greek island of Kos. 34 people died trying to reach the island yesterday.

The Daily Star reports on the paper factory fire in Drogheda, with the headline “Kids blamed as 22 jobs go up in flames”.

Meanwhile U2 are all over the papers, with fans to vie today for tickets to their upcoming gigs in Dublin.
