Ivan began this morning’s paper review in suitably understated fashion by announcing he has the secret to happiness – or rather page 14 of the Daily Mirror, which today carries the 30 secrets of happy family life.

Ivan has a much simpler formula though - “The most important thing is to have a good pub, close by,” he says, for when things get too heated and removing oneself from the fray is the only solution top a sustained peace.

“Daddy drinks because you cry” - Kieran Cuddihy suggested. “Exactly,” Ivan said.

Ivan picked out a story on Eurostat figures showing Ireland is third in the EU for deaths from respiratory illness
