An Australian man has been found guilty of a one-punch assault that killed Irish man Thomas Keaney (23) in Perth.

Abbas Al-Jrood (23) was accused of unlawfully killing the Galway native outside a kebab shop in December 2013.

ABC News reports Al-Jrood punched Mr Keaney in the back of the head, after an argument over a chair.

Prosecutors alleged Al-Jrood snuck up on Mr Keaney, who fell backwards and hit his head on the footpath.

He died days later in hospital.

The jury deliberated for about four and a half hours before finding him guilty of manslaughter.

Al-Jrood was remanded in custody until a sentencing hearing in July.

Members of Mr Keaney's family came to Perth for the trial.

Reporter with ABC News in Perth, Joanna Menagh, told Newstalk Breakfast the jury found him guilty of manslaughter and remanded him in custody.
