A Cabinet Minister says the Senior Counsel appointed to probe garda whistleblower allegations will examine new claims made by a female member of the force.

It comes after John McGuinness of Fianna Fáil claimed the garda told him she was warned by the then-Confidential Recipient that the last person to use the service was now "washing cars in Navan".

The Kilkenny Deputy wants Oliver Connolly to be recalled and face further questions.

Education Minister Ruairí Quinn says the claim will be one of many to be considered by the Senior Counsel.

The former Garda Confidential Recipient Oliver Connolly was sacked last week after the leak of a transcript where he told a whistleblower that the Minister for Justice would 'go after him'.

Journalist Mick Clifford of the Irish Examiner has been covering allegations of garda misconduct since last year. On Newstalk Breakfast he analysed the Dáil performance by Justice Minister Alan Shatter yesterday, during which he dealt with the way he has handled the crisis.

Meanwhile it has been revealed there will be no transcript issued of the testimony by garda whistleblower Maurice McCabe to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The Dail Procedural Committee met last night and heard legal advice saying it could be dangerous to release records of meetings that had been held in private.
