In Scotland, the SNP is answering questions about its plans to instigate a new referendum on independence – something that David Cameron has ruled out for at least a generation.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also says she wants devolution of powers moved to Scotland as soon as possible, despite estimates that Scotland may lose out on over £7 billion.

Shona Murray is in Edinburgh and she spent the day with Nicola Sturgeon.

The issues that the Scottish media are focusing on was her comments about Devo-max, another referendum, and talk of the renewal of Trident, the costly system of nuclear missiles.

In relation to the referendum, she said that if there was a significant change in UK policy, such as removal from the EU, she would seek to trigger another referendum on Independence.

Shona asked her about Scotland’s membership in the EU, and whether it looks to how Ireland established itself through membership:

Shona also questioned Sturgeon about whether she thought the debate in Scotland about independence has fuelled debate elsewhere, in particular, Northern Ireland and the question of a referendum on a united Ireland.

Sturgeon made the point that it wasn’t right for any other country, Prime Minister or head of state to have made calls either way during the Scottish referendum so she wouldn’t do so regarding the North.

However, she reiterated her support for self-determination of peoples:

Sturgeon also insisted that another referendum is not off the cards, and that if there’s enough popular support, then it may happen again in a few years:
