Unions at Bausch and Lomb in Waterford say there are a number of challenges ahead of the talks with management this morning.
They are due to meet at 9 O'clock this morning in a bid to secure some of the 200 jobs marked for redundancy.
Last Thursday the company's 1,100 workforce was told they have until June 17th to accept or reject a 20% pay cut and 200 redundancies.
If a deal cannot be reached, Bausch and Lomb say they will be forced to shut the factory in Waterford city.
