Waterford workers dismayed by pay cuts ahead of meet

Unions at Bausch and Lomb in Waterford say there are a number of challenges ahead of the talks with management this morning.

They are due to meet at 9 O'clock this morning in a bid to secure some of the 200 jobs marked for redundancy.

Last Thursday the company's 1,100 workforce was told they have until June 17th to accept or reject a 20% pay cut and 200 redundancies.

If a deal cannot be reached, Bausch and Lomb say they will be forced to shut the factory in Waterford city.

Local SIPTU organiser Alan O'Leary told Newstalk's Breakfast the workers have been put in an impossible position:
