The list continues to grow of housing developments built during the Celtic Tiger years that now fall short of mandatory building standards.
Newstalk Breakfast reporter Kieran Cuddihy has been tracking several of these developments in recent months - investigating the story of dangerous buildings and the fires Newbridge and the near condemned, collapsing buildings in Riverwalk Court in Ratoath.
Today Kieran travelled with presenter Chris Donoghue to Ashbourne, to bring us a report of a couple facing major structural damage and dangers in their home - and asking serious questions about how the development was certified as habitable.
Chris visited John and Cecilia Ryan, living in Killegland Meadows in Ashbourne Town centre. The couple bought a home in the development during the property boom and now find themselves facing a series of serious, and seemingly mounting, problems with the build of their home.
Tests have found the dwelling falls far below minimum safety regulations, and the families living there are facing real danger if there should be a fire in the building, with a report commissioned by John and Cecilia showing up some grave deficiencies, and issues that should have ensured the building was never certified.
The problems have become so severe that the couple just want to walk away.
Cecilia told Chris: "Let us go, take the apartment. The bank (should) take responsibility, the people who built the apartment (should) take responsibility. We are the victims in all of this. Let us go. That is what I dream about."
