The Taoiseach Enda Kenny made the comments during an interview on RTÉ's Prime Time programme last night.
Mr Kenny says the referendum is about 'tolerance, respect, understanding and sensitivity'. He told Prime Time that he hopes the referendum passes.
The same-sex marriage referendum will be held alongside the Carlow-Kilkenny by-election, and the vote on a proposal to lower the age for contesting the Presidency from 35 to 21.
Chris stated that he thought that the interview didn't reveal much more than that stating: "it was vacuous."
with Ivan responding: "The Taoiseach is a statesman but he is also a politician. He has a party convention in Castlebar this weekend and his party are going to fight a general election. He's going to be backing campaigning mode
"Where does Fine Gael stand on two simple issues? Do you have favour selling 25% of Aer Lingus?
"Fine Gael have actually said nothing about it.
"The other issue was the Clare Daly bill.
"Do you favour Fine Gael as a party repealing the eighth amendment of the consitution?"
Chris stated when he was asked about the defeat of the Clare Daly bill, the Taoiseach said something extraordinary: "That's a matter for the next government."
"The one thing that came out of the Taoiseach's interview was a date for the referendum."
