Irish boxing's civil war continued on Wednesday, with the IABA rubber-stamping the expulsion of three provincial bodies.

An independent membership panel has voted to revoke the membership of the Leinster Provincial Council, Connacht Provincial Council, and the Dublin County Board.

In June, all three bodies withdrew their support for the IABA's Central Council in a row over deferred elections. The board of the IABA has stalled on electing two new directors - a measure passed at the 2019 AGM.

That led to a vote of the IABA's Central Council last month, which set the wheels in motion to remove the affiliation of the three provincial bodies.

That vote left in the hands of the Board of Directors but, due to a conflict of interest, an independent membership panel was left to decide on the next steps. The panel was comprised of two barristers and a corporate governance officer from another National Governing Body of sport.

The membership panel decided to uphold the Central Council's decision to remove membership and affiliation from the Leinster, Connacht and Dublin boards.

In a statement, the IABA noted that "all clubs under the auspices of Leinster and Connacht Provincial Council and the Dublin Board who have already affiliated to IABA remain affiliated, which means their boxers and training activities are insured and boxers can continue to compete in official IABA competitions."

The IABA is due to hold its AGM in Belfast next week.
