Pat Nevin believes it would be worth trialing allowing physios on-field while play is ongoing for all non-head injury related ones.

It follows the fractious scenes between Leeds United and Aston Villa in the Championship on Sunday.

A Villa player went down injured but Leeds did not kick the ball out to stop play.

Instead, they went up the other end and scored, although in apology, Marcelo Bielsa' side allowed Villa to score at the other end to make it 1-1.

Rather than teams feeling compelled to put the ball out, is there a better solution?

One could be allowing physios on while play is ongoing and ex-Chelsea and Everton winger Pat Nevin feels trialing that could be worthwhile.

"I like idea of a trial of letting the physios come on," he said as he joined us as always on a Monday.

Moral Dilemma

"The physios are not allowed to come on unless the referee ushers them on. Can I tell you, 100% of referees will ignore the referee if they think there's danger. If they think it's a big problem, they will ignore him. I've talked to plenty of physios about this and there's a kind of nod and a wink. If there's a serious injury, ignore the referee and get on there.

"So I'm not against changing the rule and saying, 'Right, okay, let them on and them play around'. Let's have a go at that and trial it out to see if it works.

"That might get rid of that problem, so I've no problem with that. The problem I've actually got and it's a moral dilemma: [Leeds] were right to play on.

"Now, the only problem is a tiny wee moment when one of the players goes to kick it out. If you've looked as if you're going to kick it out and use that as a scam, you should kick it out now and we're all on the same page now.

"That was the only difficult moment of it. But I'm not for kicking the ball out, ever. It's up to the referee. Because we do know what does happen: People start cheating."
