Neanderthals have long been depicted as dim witted and brutish cave-dwellers far removed from us, their Homo Sapien cousins.
But Neanderthals actually lived highly complex and diverse lives who thrived in an ever-changing and hostile world.
So, who were the Neanderthals and what do we know about them?
