For all that we like to mock it, Google translate is a really impressive and useful piece of technology which is allowing people from different linguistic backgrounds to communicate in a way that was previously not possible. 

There are of course still communities who cannot avail of this type of technology. 

One obvious example is the deaf community. But perhaps that’s about to change.
