We tend to think of extinction as a pretty bad thing but then again it might depend on your point of view.

While there may not seem to be any redeeming qualities to whole species dying off, extinctions are actually one of the most creative forces in the natural world.

Ben Garrod, Professor of Evolutionary Biology and Science Engagement at East Anglia University & author of the 'Extinct' series joined Jonathan to discuss the good side of extinction.
