The insect world is a weird and sometimes terrifying place.

Not only do insects need to battle with the environment, cross-species competition, or other creatures both big and small simply trying to eat them - they, like us, also need to contend with parasites and the potentially fatal outcomes if one gets a hold.

One such parasite is the 'Crypt Keeper Wasp' - one whose methods of survival are both fascinating and gruesome in equal measure.

Dr Kelly Weinersmith, Adjunct at Rice University in the BioSciences Department joined Jonathan to discuss.

First aired February 4th 2017
