In recent months you might have noticed fast electric scooters darting between traffic at speeds over 20 kilometres per hour. But are they legal and are they safe?

Well Dublin City Council wants to ban electric scooters from public roads and cycle paths. (They look like large child’s micro scooters with small motors inside).

Dublin City Council say the use of them is illegal and it’s a matter for the Gardai to enforce the law.

The Road Safety Authority say it’s illegal to ride an electric scooter in a cycle path.

To explain the grey area of electric scooters Henry McKean has being riding one around the capital.
