A century ago this weekend, events took place in Ireland which sound like the stuff of a hollywood movie. A man was tracked down across the country, shot using a gun belonging to a man he himself had allegedly overseen the killing of just a few months earlier. The whole affair would prompt sectarian riots and became a serious turning point in the turbulent tribal history of Ireland.
The man’s name was District Inspector Oswald Swanzy.
