Have you ever had a bad experience with a dog that was unmuzzled or off its leash?
Have you been attacked? Has your pet been attacked? Do dangerous dogs like that, going around unchecked, make you nervous? Afraid?
Well, one of our listeners, Brian, got in touch with us via email about his own experience.
He said:
A few weeks ago, when the weather was better, I was walking on a beach between Cork and Clonakilty with my wife, 3 kids and our jack russell who was just about to go for a swim.
Our dog was then approached and attacked by 2 dogs - a Staffordshire Bull terrier and what looked like a cross between a Rottweiler and a Staffordshire bull terrier.
They were not on a leash and not muzzled although both are meant to be at all times in public.
A witness told me that they saw the owner of the dogs who watched and did nothing, he didn’t call them away.
Luckily I had a snorkel with me and I was able to hit the dogs away.
Our jack russell, thankfully, survived and is recovering but I think it is disgraceful that dog owners would allow such dangerous dogs off their leashes without muzzles.
I am constantly seeing unmuzzled dogs and uncaring owners, even since the attack on the beach.
