Listener email: 'Susan - I’m turning 40 next week and dreading it. One of my best friends is organizing a small gathering. For once I'm glad of the restrictions because I won’t have to put on a happy face in front of a room full of people. I’m usually very happy and don’t think about my age too much but it’s hit me hard I’m in ‘middle age’. I feel a little depressed, if I'm honest. This isn’t what I thought being 40 would look like. I'm not married, I don’t have family, and not exactly where I want to be in my career. When I look in the mirror now, I see an ‘older woman’ and not myself. Worse still, I don’t feel like a forty-year-old woman. As I said, usually I'm pretty happy about life, so these feelings of sadness and anxiety are unexpected. How did you listeners feel when they turned 40? I want to start feeling better about this milestone before my party next week!' What do you think about how Anne describes her feelings about turning 40? Did you experience something similar when you hit that milestone? Susan hears from listeners.
