Built up areas across the country should have a default speed limit of 30 km hour according to the Love 30 campaign.

They are calling on the Oireachtas to include the measure in the forthcoming Road Traffic Bill.

Several European cities have already implemented the speed limit, including London, Brussels, Milan and Paris.

Barry Aldworth, Senior Media Officer with AA Ireland, told Newstalk Breakfast that the introduction of 30 km/h speed limits in urban areas was 'a matter of when, not if'
