The Association of Catholic Priests has said it is “disappointed” that Pope Francis has dismissed proposals to allow married men become priests in the Amazon.
The recommendation was put forward by Latin American bishops as a way of easing the scarcity of priests in the region, but the Pope outruled it in his apostolic exhortation Querida Amazonia.
Archbishop Eamon Martin, Primate of Ireland, has welcomed the popes opposition to the proposal. He joined Kieran Cuddihy on the show this morning to explain why.
