Ireland is an “outlier” when it comes to psychiatric treatment compared to our EU counterparts according to the Irish Hospital Consultants Association. They say that 30% of permanent consultant psychiatrist posts are vacant while we only have 22 adult acute mental health beds per 100,000 population compared to EU mean of 70 per 100,000.
