So-called pamper parties, which mimic the experience of attending a beauty salon, have become a popular birthday choice for girls as young as four.

But are makeup parties simply allowing young girls the opportunity to express themselves or do they prematurely expose a child to an environment where how they look is deemed more important than how they feel?
