Congestion charges, higher car parking fees, the pedestrianisation of urban centres, cheaper public transport and fuel price increases will all be considered as part of a major new car reduction strategy.
Eamon Ryan, the Minister for Transport, will bring a memo to cabinet tomorrow which will trigger a year-long process of developing a “demand management strategy” to allow the country to reach its emissions reductions targets.
