Why are so many Irish people getting obesity surgery abroad? High costs, long waiting times, and the threat of covid-19. These are the reasons more and more Irish people are seeking obesity surgery abroad, with one Turkish health tourism agency reporting a 220 percent increase in enquiries from Ireland in the last year alone. Helen Heneghan is a Professor of Surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital and a consultant bariatric surgeon spoke to Ciara this morning.
