In the latest Cervical Check case, Ruth Morrissey won her High Court action over the misreading of smear tests and the failure to disclose that information to her.

She is terminally-ill, but says she hopes other women with cervical cancer won't have to go through the courts to get justice.

Mr. Justice Kevin Cross has awarded Ruth and her husband Paul €2.1 million in damages after they sued the HSE, Quest Diagnostics and MedLab Pathology Limited.

He found if her case had been dealt with properly she wouldn't have contracted terminal cervical cancer and been left with 2 years to live.

Lorraine Walsh is a member of the 221 group, and a patient representative on the Cervical Check Steering Group. She spoke to Ivan about her hopes that women like her will be able to avoid a court or Tribunal hearing following today's ruling.
