According to a report published by the Oireachtas Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, broadcasting in the Irish language is in a state of crisis.

The report includes calls to restore €6 million funding to TG4 to tackle the Irish broadcasting crisis.

Debate around the Irish language has been passionate for as long as I can remember, and all this got us thinking about our neighbours, the Welsh - a nation often held up as full of people who love their language and want to keep it thriving.

Nigel Owens, international rugby referee, is still in Dublin following the Union Cup at the weekend, and he joined Ivan to tell Ivan what he believes helps a native language to thrive.
