Pat Kenny was given the task in the 90s of taking over from Gay Byrne as the host of the Late Late Show.  Describing him as the 'embodiment of the views of modern Ireland', Pat was joined Ivan on this evening's edition of the Hard Shoulder to pay tribute to him.

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern also paid his own respects, calling him 'horrendously brave...'

Broadcaster Gerry Kelly, who presented a chat show on UTV on Friday nights in the Gay Byrne era, also shared his thoughts, saying that he 'set the template for talk shows', saying that he set his timer to make sure he saw Gay peform every Friday night.
