A Dublin mother is hitting out at the HSE over plans to move her autistic son 70 kilometres away from the family home.

Jake O’Kane, who also has a learning disability, is living in residential care in Co. Wicklow since last year.

The HSE plans to relocate him to an adult facility in Portarlington, Co. Laois but his mum, Linda, is vigorously opposed to the move.

Though the health authority doesn't comment on individual cases, it says the person with a disability is at the centre of all decision making, and the family wishes are considered.

However Linda has told Newtalk reporter, Aideen Finnegan, this hasn't been her experience.
