Gemma shared her story with Kieran about suffering a miscarriage during the pandemic, and being given the sad news alone because her partner wasn't allowed to be there.
That very same day her mum was receiving palliative care on a different floor of the hospital, and she died that day.
The Hard Shoulder has been highlighting how men are still being denied entry into maternity units for emergency care, and even in the cases of miscarriage.
Gemma talked about relying on the kindness of a midwife to hold her hand through the procedure rather than her partner, because of Covid restrictions.
"The one person you want there is your partner. You want them with you, you want them to be there with you to hold your hand, to give you that psychological safety to say 'everything is fine' and you can't have that, and it's very traumatic."
