A research paper published by the Lancet says that December 1st 2019 was the date of the first known case of Covid-19.

Further research indicates it may have been even earlier - for instance, as soon as November 17th - with China officially reporting its first case on December 31st 2019.

Little did we all know then that the new, unheard-of virus would wreak havoc across the globe.

Derek Anderson is an Irishman who is living in Wuxi in China, and he joined Kieran on Tuesday's edition of The Hard Shoulder to share his memories of last year.
