Should poetry be pulled from the Leaving Cert English curriculum?

Poetry has fallen victim to the Coronavirus in the UK as schools can now drop it from the curriculum. The exams regulator Ofqual feared there wouldn’t be enough time to cover the subject, so it gave schools the green light to make it optional. 

But is it really a good idea and should Ireland do the same?
