One of the UK’s most prolific serial killers Lucy Letby was sentenced to 14 whole life sentences for the murder of 7 babies however she was not in court for the sentencing or to hear any of the victim impact statements.
And indeed, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has suggested the UK will potentially change the law to compel those found guilty to be in court to hear the statements when they are read out to court.
But what is the value of those statements in terms of the perpetrator hearing them or indeed for the families of the victims of crime getting to have their say.
