This year, and more specially this month marks the 40th anniversary of the start of the 1984 to 1985 miners’ strike in the UK.
The strike was a major industrial action within the coal industry that aimed to prevent mine closures which the Tory government under Margaret Thatcher was initiating.
It divided communities, split families and changed the face of a nation. The ramifications of which can be felt today.
