In May 2018, Alex Lynam was diagnosed with NUT Midline Carcinoma, a very rare and highly aggressive form of cancer. Within weeks the disease had taken the sight in his right eye. Alex was hospitalised for a number of weeks and then underwent 7 weeks of intensive radiation and chemotherapy treatment as an outpatient in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. On the 14th of September, Alex was readmitted to Beaumont Hospital with extreme pain. It was soon discovered that his disease had spread to his cerebral spinal fluid. Alex died on October 5th 2018 in St. Clare’s Oncology ward in Beaumont Hospital. He was just 24 years of age. His family are now raising money for the ward that he was in during his time at Beaumont.
