The Department of Defence confirmed there is no plan for awarding the soldiers from the siege of Jadotville bravery medals, despite their Commanding Officer Pat Quinlan suggesting they do 60 years ago.
The siege in 1969, was a company of 155 Irish soldiers on a peace keeping mission to the Congo where they held off 3,000 mercenaries and militia. The five day battle finished with no Irish fatalities.
