Ireland’s most beloved dolphin Fungie has been missing exactly a week now.  The bottlenose dolphin was first sighted in Dingle harbour in 1983 and remained there for 37 years.  Locals are still holding out hope after a number of possible sightings at Slea head, Inch, Kells and Ballyferriter in West Kerry.   Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Breandán FitzGerald is calling for financial supports and other measures for fishermen and businesses in west kerry “should Fungie not return. 

Back in 2018, our reporter Siofra Mulqueen headed to Dingle to see how much Fungie means to the community and met a man called Paul from Dorset who made his way to Kerry a couple of times a year to spend time with Fungie on the bay.  The took Siofra out on his small motor boat to experience what it’s like to meet fungie up close and personal
