Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney has said that at least 3,000 extra soldiers are needed for the Irish defence forces. 

Minister Coveney believes that the additional recruits are necessary in addressing the security threats facing Ireland in the wake of Russia's invasion of the Ukraine.
