Some have even sought to romanticise such thieves as Robin Hood characters, but in reality, many went to their execution for a litany of crimes.

October 3rd marks the anniversary of the death of a particularly odd Highwayman story - ‘The Gentleman Highwayman’, renowned for courteous behaviour during his robberies.
