Ivan thought he knew everything there was to know about the iconic former RTE reporter Charlie Bird; but then the veteran broadcaster joined him this week's Thursday Interview.

After living in Sandymount and Goatstown in his early life, he worked in some form of job from the age of 8 years old, ultimately making it to RTE where he was, among other things, a good between for the station and the IRA.

Charlie Bird couldn't walk down a street in Ireland without being recognised for a time, such was his role in Irish public life.
