Michael Ryan has not ruled himself out of running for the vacant Waterford manager's job.

The Fourmilewater clubman confirmed earlier in the week that he would not go for another term in charge having lost the confidence of the players but speaking on RTE TV last night the ousted boss said he thought he'd get another two years in charge and was surprised when he found out that some players wanted a change in voice.

It's a dangerous game though for any manager to go against the wishes of a squad even if they are not all in favour of a new voice.

Gerald Mc Carthy did it in Cork and rightly or wrongly it was extremely damaging to the county and in general when a majority of the a squad don't want someone in charge they will say all the right things about being professional in their attitude but human nature dictates it will cause a division.

He may have been hard done by , the reasons the players voted him out maybe valid , like every fan I’m on the outside so I don’t  know but fans are finding it hard to make up their minds as the players have yet to go public with their reasons for the heave and until they know the sway of popular support is likely to be behind the likeable Michael Ryan.

I'm not suggesting that it should come down to personalities players are potting in their lives on hold to play for their county so if they think they deserve a better management structure they are entitled to put their view across but the longer they remain silent the worse it gets.

The facts are with a young team Ryan kept Waterford in division 1-A and had some good Championship wins as he developed a talented young squad, are the players right to want a change?

It will be judged as follows if Waterford stay up or even win the league and have an extended Championship run then  the players will have been proved right, if they don’t then the decision to get rid of Ryan will be opened up to debate again.

John Mullane denies any involvement in the move by the players against Ryan but if he comes back to play next season it maybe scene as a vote against the old boss, the truth is if he comes back it’s probably because he misses it so much and still feels capable of making an impact, fans spent half their time during the Kilkenny match watching the reactions of John Mullane who got more camera time than most players, the other half was spent wishing he was still out their.

Eoin Kelly is another who could return given he’s only 30 and is in good form for his club at present, how will this effect the equilibrium of the squad? Don’t ask me I’m on the outside  and like you I only ask questions and debate rumours.

As always with my beloved county  on and off the pitch it’s never boring
