We'll never see the like again! In 1983 a provincial club like Aberdeen beat the mighty Real Madrid in the Cup Winners Cup final by a 2 - 1 scoreline.
One of Alex Ferguson's lieutenants on the pitch that night was former Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Rangers manager Alex McLeish.
With Aberdeen fan and European football expert Graham Hunter in studio alongside Ger, McLeish joined us on the line to dive into the depths of history and Aberdeen's run to the 1983 final.
"I had a hand in both goals - the first goal for Eric Black and the equalizer for Real Madrid - so it was a mixed night personally but to win that trophy was just one of the greatest moments of my career," said McLeish who also discussed Alex Ferguson's managerial style.
Years later, when he was manager of Motherwell, McLeish visisted the former Manchester United boss and asked him whether the old-school management style from the Aberdeen days could be replicated in the modern day.
"'He said absolutely no chance. You have to be a psychologist now. There's no way I could do it in the same way'. I know they talk about the hairdryer over the years and I'm sure he still gave it to Man United players but at the same time he had the right to do it because he's got a cupboard full of trophies," said McLeish.
The 55-year-old also spoke about the time that Rangers tried - and failed - to sign Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta.
"[Ex-Rangers assistant] Jan Wouters approached Barcelona and he was close to [former Barca assistant] Henk Ten Cate. He said to Henk if they had any players for us and if we could get one or two players on loan. He said they had Iniesta and that we should take this kid because he's genius. So we said we'd move it along a little bit. Ten Cate phoned us on the Friday and said they couldn't [do a deal] that weekend because injuries meant they needed him in the squad. Lo and behold, Iniesta played that weekend and he did so well that they said 'forget it!'"
