Andy Murray will be competing on two fronts at Wimbledon after confirming he's teaming up with Serena Williams in the mixed doubles.

The former world number one is already paired with Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert as he continues his comeback from hip surgery.

The two-time Wimbledon winner says it's a 'great opportunity' to play alongside the 23-Grand Slam champion.

"It'll be great. I'm just happy to be fit and healthy again. With what's happened the last year or so, you never know what's round the corner, so it's a great opportunity. I'll look forward to it."

They'll face former French Open doubles champion Andreas Mies and partner Alexa Guarachi in the opening round.

Williams feels she has plenty in common with Murray.

"We’re a lot alike on the court. I’ve always liked that about him. Talking about work ethic…His work ethic is just honestly off the charts. That’s something I’ve always respected about him. His fitness, everything.

"To do what he’s done in an era where there’s so many other great male tennis players, so much competition, to rise above it, not many people have done it. He’s actually one of the few.

"There’s so many things to be admired. Above all, he really stands out, he really speaks up about women’s issues no matter what. You can tell he has a really strong woman in his life. I think above all that is just fantastic."

Murray's mother Judy feels Williams and her son could be a perfect mixed doubles team.

"It looks like a really strong partnership," she said. "It's always difficult to tell in mixed doubles because you only have them in the grand slams, so nobody gets the chance to specialise in it or play it a lot.

"But they've both got form in singles and doubles, so hopefully they can be the perfect match."
