The English FA have contacted Mario Balotelli about what has been described as an offensive message that he posted on Instagram last night.
The Liverpool striker has now deleted the post, which contained reference to racial stereotypes, and he has since apologised and says that it was taken out of context.
Balotelli has until 6PM on Friday to respond to the FA's official correspondence and he could face a punishment if they are not satisfied.
Balotelli is once again missing for Liverpool tonight as the Reds are involved in one of six games taking place in the Barclays Premier League.
Brendan Rodgers' side will travel to face bottom of the table Leicester City in one of the four games that will kick-off at 7:45.
