Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford has used Twitter to apologise for comments he made about his loan spell at Crystal Palace, which appears to have come to an end.

Speaking after Monday's draw with Swansea, he said his stint with Palace had been "terrible", and he had decided to return to Chelsea after regularly sitting on the substitutes' bench.

He now says his words were taken out of context, and he "really enjoyed" his time at Palace.

Bamford enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Middlesbrough last season with his 19 goals in all competitions, crucial as the Teeside club reached the Championship promotion playoffs.

Bamford has represented Ireland at under-18 level internationally, qualifying through the grandparent rule, although he has lined out for England at more recent underage levels.
