Jockey Barry Geraghty will miss the Galway Festival as he continues to recover from a double leg break.

The 39-year-old's recovery from fractures to his tibia and fibula suffered at Aintree in April is taking longer than first anticipated.

Geraghty fell from Peregrine Run in the Topham Chase, which also forced him to sit out a ride on winner Champ in the Grade One Sefton Novices’ Hurdle later on the card.

“The injury is coming along grand and I’m due to go in on Monday to get the frame off," he told the Racing Post.

“In terms of time I’ll be in a boot for a month so I won’t be riding at Galway. It’s looking more like Listowel time that I’ll be coming back.”

Geraghty, who also missed Galway in 2016 due to a broken arm, says he's now hoping to be back for Listowel Festival in September.

“Initially I was told that it would be at least 12 weeks in the frame and it’s 13 weeks since the fall now.

"I hoped at Aintree that I’d make Galway, but unfortunately that hasn’t been the case.”

He's previously won the Kerry National at Listowel on three occasions, partnering Monty's Pass to victory in 2003 ahead of winning at Aintree in the following year.
