Think a wet football to the face is as bad as it gets? How about getting hit by something harder and much, much, faster.
Major League Baseball player Delino DeSheilds Jr was hospitalised on after a 90mph pitch struck him directly in the face. Despite suffering a broken cheekbone he returned to the field two days later.
The 21 year-old, who is registered to Houston Astros but was playing a reserve game for the Corpus Christi Hooks, was hit during the 7th inning of a game last Friday night. Putting on a brave (but heavily swollen) face, he posted this update to Twitter shortly after the incident.
To anyone that is concerned as you can see I'm doing fantastic! Blessed to see another day! Always smiling 😊 lol pic.twitter.com/C5koD0Z5t9
