Basketball Ireland has confirmed that next season's Women's Super League will be expanded from 10 teams to 12 with two teams joining Division One.

The new-look top-flight will be played on a conference basis with Trinity Meteors and St Mary's Castleisland, who had been set to play in the promotion playoffs, both moving up from Division One. Marble City Hawks will also stay in the Super League next term.

Last year's champions DCU Mercy, Pyrobel Killester, Trinity Meteors, IT Carlow, Leixlip Amenities Liffey Celtics and Maree will form the Northern Conference.

While Ambassador UCC Glanmire, Fr. Mathews, Brunell, St. Mary's Castleisland, Marble City Hawks and WIT Waterford Wildcats are the teams in the Southern Conference.

LYIT Donegal will make their debut in the Women’s National League, while St Paul’s Killarney return to Division One after a nine year absence.

"We are delighted to see LYIT Donegal joining the National League and St Paul's Killarney returning after a long absence. Both teams impressed the WNLC with their applications and will be strong additions to our league," Women's National League Committee chair Breda Dick said of the changes.

"We are also looking forward to the new Super League Conference format with an exciting play-off climax to the season too."
