This year's Cheltenham Gold Cup has gone to the favourite after Bobs Worth won the Blue Riband event of National Hunt racing.

The 11-to-4 favourite was expected to struggle with the softening ground, but jockey Barry Geraghty produced the perfect ride, taking to the front from three jumps out to win by seven lengths from the leading Irish chance, Sir Des Champs with former champion Long Run finishing in third.

Earlier, Kerry jockey Bryan Cooper won the opening two races on the card to bring Ireland's winning tally for the week to 12 - one short of the 2011 record.

Cooper first helped the Dessie Hughes trained Our Conor to victory in the JCB Triumph Hurdle at odds of 4-to-1.

He followed that up just over half an hour later on-board 10-to-1 runner Ted Veale in the Grade 3 Vincent O'Brien County Handicap Hurdle for County Meath trainer Tony Martin.

Also today, champion jockey AP McCoy picked-up his first win of the week when he helped "At Fishers Cross" to victory in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle.

In a dramatic finish to the 4 O'Clock CGA Foxhunter Chase Challenge Cup, Oscar Delta was leading after clearing the final fence, only to appaer to jink and veer off into the side railings, throwing jockey Jane Mangan from the saddle and allowing Salsify, the 2-1 favourite, to romp home for the win.
