Last night Paralympics Ireland conferred upon three Paralympians the Irish Paralympic Order, the highest honour the organisation can bestow. The award represents a recognition of outstanding service to the Paralympic movement in Ireland.
Bridie Lynch was one of last year’s winners, with the award recognising a career of excellence that spanned almost 20 years of competing at the highest level.
Bridie spent a lifetime representing Ireland at Paralympic games, from her 1983 debut at the European Athletics Championships in Varna, Bulgaria, where she won the discus bronze, through to appearances at the four subsequent Paralympic Games.
Competing in New York, Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney she won gold in the discus at the Barcelona games in 1992, while also collecting a Paralympics silver and bronze in the shot putt and pentathlon.
Following the award ceremony Bridie spoke with Newstalk Sport’s Adrian Barry, going through the journey she went through.
