Joe Canning has been named as captain of the Galway hurlers for 2014.

Manager Anthony Cunningham has selected his star forward to lead the side next year after a disappointing 2013 campaign that featured a defeat to Kilkenny in the league semi-finals as well as an All Ireland quarter-final loss to Clare.

The 25-year-old Portumna clubman will be assisted by midfielder David Burke, who has been named as vice-captain.
